Why Mud-Set Lasts

A pre-formed pan is a single manufactured part. It holds one shape, one drain location, one size — and when it flexes, cracks, or separates from the board behind it, water finds its way into the framing. A mud-set shower has none of those failure points.
The mortar bed carries the load and holds the pitch to the drain permanently. The waterproofing is a continuous membrane, not a seam between kit parts. Tile is bonded to a rigid, correctly sloped substrate rather than to foam. That is why the method predates every modern shower system and still outlives them — and why it is the standard we build to.
